I trusted once... fecking once

It’s not the driving, it’s the parking...

it was a tight spot I gather.

It can’t possibly be so hard... my car has like fifty fucking cameras

They climbed a curb I saw them from the inside

C razy how far the wheels stick out past the tire. Sorry they scraped your stuff all up!

were they slammed? pressed for time? All the years I did valet, i’ve had my share of mishaps, but never fucked up rims.
Backed van into a dumpster. small ding.
backed up a R olls R oyce into a tree. no damage. just a big bang sound
Had a yukon xl/suburban/escalade (one of them) start sliding after i parked it in an iced over parking lot with a slope. Stopped thankfully without damage.
Had to park a limo and got hung up while going to a different level parking lot.
Had a H ummer get stuck in the snow for a while.
was super slammed and had to move cars as fast as possible. Pulled a J turn with a lexus. Parked it. no damage. some folks asked that I don’t park their car that way.

They should have liability insurance. Make sure they pay for a new rim.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 10:10 |

Whoa.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 10:11 |
|
Well they have insurance and you witnessed it, time for a new rim.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 10:18 |

When I had lower-profile tires, I only bought tires that had extra rubber lips to help protect the rim. It wasn’t perfect, but it saved me a bunch of times.
At least this looks like it’s just the lip, not the face. Still, I’d file a claim with the valet company if you can.
Sorry if I’m stereotyping Mexico too much here, but I’d imagine they’ll just laugh at you and say it’s your word against theirs. And then you produce a video to prove it and they shoot you on the spot and delete the video
. OK, that was too far.

You got the first 1/3 right... told me it was my word againts their “trusted employees”
![]() 12/18/2018 at 10:22 |

They climbed a curb because they didn’t know how to measure width

The manager was like “very troubling”
I mean, knowing this country, by complaining I probably cost a breadwinner his job, and it made me feel so shitty that I just stopped arguing with the manager about it.
To me its a rim, to the guy it might be his livelihood. So i just told the manager “its a very long car; hard to park, and everyone makes mistakes” hoping that no harm comes to the employee.

Definitely one of the positive benefits of moving away from 22" on my 'burb, much harder to curb a wheel with the extra sidewall. Though in my case I'm mostly trying to save myself from myself.

These are 19s, this car is 1.81m wide; very narrow... the valet did it out of negligence

Me alegro de que no estés muerto. Felicidades.
Yeah, sounds just like dealing with most US police (or people in general) especially in rural areas. They don’t have time for your petty complaints!
![]() 12/18/2018 at 10:31 |

This. I spent 2 and a half years doing
only
valet claims.

I just hope my pettiness didn’t cost someone their job in vain.

Maybe they can get a job with Kinja, it’s already completely ruined. It can only get better.

I worked as a valet in my early 20s. 10/10 do not recommend using valet. Lots of jackassery and tomfoolery happens behind the scenes.

That’s extremely generous of you.
There are decent DIY rim repair vids on YouTube.

Not even surprised.

“I mean, knowing this country, by complaining I probably cost a breadwinner his job”
Almost certainly
not, unless that particular person fucks up all the time. Insurance to run a valet company is crazy expensive because stuff like that happens. I have seen far worse and frequently.
In my youth I worked for 3 different valet companies and around a lot of other valet companies. T hey are almost all terrible. They will do anything to get out of paying for something ( or paying their employees) but if you press them, they will and they should.
When I have to valet I tip big upon arrival ($10+) this increases the chances that someone who knows what they’re doing will park your car carefully up front. If I’m driving something that I don’t want to valet to a valet only lot I’ll tip $20, and ask where I can park myself ensuring them that I’ll back it in.
That sucks that that happened, but I’d press them to replace the wheel.

You did all this in Mexico as well?
![]() 12/18/2018 at 13:01 |

Hah, nah. Is tipping not a thing in Mexico?
![]() 12/18/2018 at 13:07 |

Never have done valet parking, never will -- nor do I see myself ever having the opportunity :P
![]() 12/18/2018 at 13:14 |

Tips are fine - valet insurance (or lack of) and the fact that the person might lose their job because there are hundreds of people waiting to take their job if they fuck up is what I was referring to.

Gotcha, yea I have nothing on Mexico. Never been although I’d like to , and am ignorant to the employment situation there.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 14:18 |

First time I gave my car to a valet... only five people have driven my car, and 20% of them crashed it. -.-
![]() 12/18/2018 at 15:53 |

Did you have to sign a ‘we are not responsible’ clause?
![]() 12/18/2018 at 19:38 |

I know this story too well.
My mothers Expedition was scratched in the back bumper by a valet in a hotel, my Golfs leather steering wheel was scratched with the key itself.
No one will care.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 21:30 |

employment situation there
TL;DR: Very abusive, specially in the lower echelons .
![]() 12/18/2018 at 21:31 |
|
No... but they still denied it.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 21:31 |

I really need a wider tire there
though, really, what I want are the 2.0 tires and rims... smaller... much less noisy, much cheaper.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 21:48 |

I hope you had pictures from just before you gave it to them...
![]() 12/18/2018 at 21:58 |

I left.... I just have to deal with this on my own

Honestly after having been a lot attendant and valet, and seeing others, I don’t ever trust my car to them
